Mahahual is the Costa Maya's newest tourist town on the Mexican Caribbean;
cruise ship gateway to southern Quintana Roo's little known Mayan ruins and beaches
As little as five years ago Mahahual (also spelled Majahual) was nothing more than a few palapas on the beach and an outpost for the Mexican Navy. Then the cruise ship industry took an interest in Mahahual's undeveloped coastline and built a deep water pier for their boats. Since then an entire town has sprung up to entertain a growing flood of seafaring vacationers who disembark here to enjoy Mahahual's sandy white beach and inland adventures before they sail off to their next destination. |
